International Class for Trademarks – what class do I file my goods and services in?

The Nice International Classification divides all goods and services that can be represented by trademarks into 45 classes. They are, generally:

You can choose in advance what the goods and services classifications are for the products you are intending to sell. Alternatively, you can allow the Examiner to select the goods and services, once they have reviewed the listing that you provided. They review the list anyhow, and if the description that you use is not the standard one, they will ask you to restate the goods/services. If the Examiner finds that there are additional classes required, you are invited to pay for the additional classes, or drop the goods and services associated with the additional international class(es). If you let us know the goods and services you are aiming for, we can provide an estimate of the number of classes you are looking at.
